Love in the Local Church
First Corinthians 13, sometimes known as “The Love Chapter,” is one of the most familiar passages in the New Testament, and maybe even in the entire Bible. Its stirring words on the nature of love appear so frequently in wedding bulletins that we may be tempted to believe it was penned for that purpose. But when we read it in context, we discover a message that is much more far-reaching. Addressing a vibrant but chaotic church caught up in trying to cover their division and confusion by touting their spiritual gifts, Paul wrote to show them, and us, a better way.
