The sluggard depicted in Proverbs is a comic-tragic picture, Alistair Begg warns us—an immediate warning to those tempted to be idle and an example from which we can learn. He is hinged to his bed and happy making excuses. He is hopeless when it comes to completing things, hungry for fulfillment, and haughty in his own eyes. Scripture’s portrayal of his sorry state challenges us to assess our own lives and draw on God’s help to fight against idleness.
