There is nothing magical about baptism. It does not make someone a Christian or literally wash away sins. Still, the symbolism portrayed in the act of baptism is profound. This confession of faith illustrates our union with Christ as we declare our allegiance to Him. Baptism is designed to point us toward Jesus and His saving work, and as Alistair Begg explains, it symbolizes the new life that is ours in Christ.
