Why did Jesus need to be baptized? Alistair Begg explains how John’s baptism of Jesus was distinct from the “Christian baptism” currently observed in the church: as a one-and-only occurrence, it signaled the beginning of Christ’s redemptive ministry. Though He did not need to be baptized for reasons of personal spiritual need, in submitting to baptism, Jesus identified with those He had come to save.
