The Pharisees were shocked to see Jesus dining with tax collectors and sinners. How could He keep company with such undesirable people? As Alistair Begg reminds us, Jesus’ attendance at meals like these did not signify approval of His companions’ sin. He came to save outcasts and sinners such as them! Indeed, the church is a company of saved sinners and should, as our Savior showed us, be a place of healing for those who are spiritually sick.
