A desire for knowledge isn’t necessarily wrong—but it can become wrong when it is divorced from the basis of true knowledge and true wisdom. In the face of our tendencies toward perfectionism, pessimism, and asceticism, Scripture teaches that it is the fear of God alone that is the beginning of wisdom. Such fear, Alistair Begg explains, isn’t something we outgrow once we advance in the Christian life. We need to think of it as a foundation which can never be removed or left behind.
7hThe fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
