Preachers face many challenges when they come to the Scriptures, including the temptations to exalt originality on one hand or to fall into patterns that are dull and unimaginative on the other. Gary Millar explains that skillful preaching is undergirded by the core convictions that all of the Bible leads to Christ and every part preaches the Gospel. Preaching that communicates the main idea of the text plainly, with sensitivity to the context, tone, and emphasis of the passage, speaks with power, creativity, and freshness to the hearers.
