Prayer is not meditation, a breathing exercise, or a form of spiritual yoga. What are we doing, then, when we pray? In this interview about his new book Pray Big, Alistair Begg shares what he has learned from studying Paul’s prayers for the Ephesians. When we pray, Alistair explains, we must remember who we are praying to and who we are in coming: dependent people approaching the Father by the Son through the Spirit. God welcomes our personal pleas, and when Scripture shapes our prayers, we will increasingly focus on what matters most—His glory and the spiritual health of His people.
