Ask any minister where he trained, and he will probably answer, “At seminary.” As guest speaker Andy Gemmill explains, though, an approach to pastoral training that relies exclusively on parachurch organizations can prove disastrous. To equip the next generation of Gospel ministers, he argues, we need a radical shift: for laymen and leaders alike, ministry training shouldn’t happen primarily “somewhere else” but within the ordinary local church body. This agenda is not only biblical and necessary but also—with God’s help—excitingly possible.
