Numbered with the Transgressors

 (ID: 2381)

What did Jesus mean when He described Himself as “numbered with the transgressors”? Jesus’ identification with sinners is strong and significant, both throughout His life and at His death. Our basic spiritual problem is alienation from God. To fix that, God had to simultaneously punish sin and display His love. How? Alistair Begg explains that by counting His Son Jesus as a transgressor and counting repentant sinners as His own children, God brought about a powerful reconciliation.

12eTherefore I will divide him a portion with the many,10

fand he shall divide the spoil with the strong,11

because he poured out his soul to death

and was numbered with the transgressors;

gyet he bore the sin of many,

and makes intercession for the transgressors.
