George Whitefield was a central figure in the Great Awakening, drawing thousands to Christ during his preaching career. He was also deeply concerned for what Iain Murray calls “catholicity,” or the unity of God’s people. Catholicity is marked by loyalty to the Gospel—the full, unfiltered Gospel—above all else. This is the only thing strong enough to draw brothers and sisters in Christ together in love and unity.
