While men and women have made extraordinary progress through the ages, we are not justified in patting ourselves on our collective backs. In this message from the book of Jeremiah, Alistair Begg emphasizes the emptiness of the human pride present in us all. Instead of a consuming self-centeredness, he points us toward the one thing in which we can justifiably boast: an understanding and knowledge of God and the rebirth we are given through His love, shown in Jesus Christ.
23Thus says the Lord: y“Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24but zlet him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. aFor in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”
