When life confronts us with chaos, confusion, and discouragement, where do we turn our gaze? Thousands of years ago, God gave His messenger Isaiah an assignment, instructing him, “Comfort, comfort my people.” Though Israel had stopped listening to God’s servants, trusting His words, and obeying His commands, He still sent “tidings of comfort and joy,” promising a future deliverance.

In this short series, Alistair Begg walks us through Isaiah 40, a pivotal chapter in which God urges Israel to respond to national calamity by casting their eyes afresh on Him. He alone is the gentle Shepherd and holy King, fully worthy of faith and adoration. As we come to see Him as He declares Himself to be and wait upon Him, we too can enjoy the benefits of His prophetic promise: “They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
