Privileges of Sonship

1 John 3:1–3  (ID: 1267)

The apostle John was concerned that believers know with certainty what it meant to belong to God. True obedience, love, and belief are hallmarks of belonging. In this message from 1 John 3, Alistair Begg reminds us of the importance of remembering what we once were, knowing what we are now, and understanding what we will be. As we are reminded of these truths, we can enjoy and share the lavish love of the Father, who calls us His sons and daughters.

1See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears1 we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
