Meeting the Messiah

John 1:40–42  (ID: 3193)

In just a few verses, John 1 records Andrew’s first encounter with Jesus. Alistair Begg explains that although simple, Andrew’s story reflects the pattern of faithful Gospel ministry. Those who follow Christ should be motivated by the priority to find those who have not yet heard, to tell the good news of Jesus with conviction and clarity, and to bring others to meet the Savior.

40One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus9 was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 42He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter10).
