Of the teachings of Jesus, few are as familiar—or as frequently misunderstood—as those contained in Luke 6:20–49. Over the centuries, believers and unbelievers alike have been stirred by Christ’s lessons on the Law of Love, the Golden Rule, forgiving one’s enemies, and bearing good fruit. But are these famous words really just a collection of inspiring moral teaching? Or do they offer us something even greater?
In this series, Alistair Begg invites us to revisit one of Jesus’ most well-known sermons and see it for what it truly is: a “manifesto” for Christian living that points to our need for a Savior. Understood rightly, Jesus’ teaching would make even the most well-meaning, gracious person despair of his ability to fulfill God’s commands. Before we can embrace the radical, selfless lifestyle that Jesus preached, we must be reborn from the inside out—a transformation that can only be accomplished in us by Christ Himself.
