Strength for the Battle
Putting On the Whole Armor of God
As Paul drew his letter to the Ephesians to a close, he addressed a topic as timeless as it is likely to be approached with skepticism: spiritual warfare. Faith in Jesus, he wrote, introduces us to a battleground where we fight what the Westminster Confession calls “a continual and irreconcilable war” against sin and its proponents. Yet God has not left us to fight alone. Through the Father’s grace, the Son’s sacrifice, and the Spirit’s power, we have a whole armory at our disposal!
In this series, Alistair Begg considers Paul’s call to “put on the whole armor of God,” from the defenses of truth, righteousness, the Gospel of peace, faith, and salvation to the weaponry of God’s Word and prayer, with which we fight not “against flesh and blood, but … against the spiritual forces of evil.” As Christ’s soldiers, we are to take up God’s provision to do battle against our foe and know the triumph that can only be ours in Him.
